Superdevoluy is not your typical alpine village. Originally the resort consisted of the two apartment blocks, built in the '60's. They were functional, typical of the era, but lacking in the usual alpine charm of the area. If you want the more traditional alpine village atmosphere, then La Joue du Loup on the other side of the mountain is probably more for you.
However in recent years, the trend has been to build more traditional chalet style accommodation, which can be found behind the high rise apartments. Just behind the main building, are the newer chalet style residences, for those that like a more traditional style of accommodation, but still very close to the lifts and ski slopes.
At the time that we visited Devoluy (2009), there were very few English people in the resort (we only found one family and one couple) as they mainly catered for the French and Dutch. The tourist office, located in one of the newest buildings, did not speak English, although the ladies there were very helpful with my primary school French! We did find several shop owners though who spoke good English. As more English companies book the resort, things will probably change. Don't let this put you off visiting the resort though. |
